“The soul is a terrible reality.

It can be bought, and sold, and bartered away.

It can be poisoned, or made perfect.

There is a soul in each of us. I know it.”

– Oscar Wilde, The Picture of Dorian Gray

The Story

The Picture of Dorian Gray tells the story of a man whose portrait ages in his place. Though outwardly he appears innocent, Dorian engages in immoral acts and his portrait reflects his corruption. He hides his portrait, ashamed of the tarnished image, and suffers for it in the end.

Unlike Dorian, we will never abandon principles for profit, sacrifice the future for short term gain, or act callously towards others. This cautionary tale is the foundation of our business philosophy.

This was a very impactful book for me, personally.

For a good portion of my life, I've pursued financial and material success. There's nothing wrong with ambition, but the story of Dorian Gray is a reminder not to let these pursuits detract from our humanity.
